The Tanzania Breast Cancer Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation set up by a group of determined women with breast cancer. Our aim is to address the limitations in care & support services available for breast cancer patients in this country.Our philosophy is grounded on love and compassion, and our simple goal is to create a future where no-one in Tanzania has to deal with this frightening disease alone.
We are a new organisation and we still have much work to do to develop a full range of services, but currently we provide information about breast cancer, advise on treatment options, and perhaps most important we offer a network of fellow breast cancer patients, so you know that you are not alone.
The Tanzania Breast Cancer Foundation services are free to patients. But we rely entirely on donor funding and sponsorship to do our crucial work and to help us to expand our services.Please support us by making a donation, or by becoming a major funder.
Our Objectives
Our full list of current objectives include:
Developing a well-equipped centre where women can get advise, emotional support, counselling, information, and interaction with other breast cancer patients.
Recruiting a team of 2 full-time employees to manage the centre, supported by a strong volunteer force.
Finding the resources to create a support network across the country, where breast cancer patients can share experiences and information on treatment options
Providing breast prosthetics (artificial breasts) and lymphoedema arm stockings to improve the quality of life of women who have had mastectomies.
Creating an awareness campaign that dispells the myths and stigma associated with breast cancer and encourages women to seek medical assistance
Generating funds from donations to help provide treatment to women who cannot afford it themselves & ultimately to develop a hospice and hostel service
Developing strong and meaningful advocacy that will drive the development of specialist diagnostic & medical services for people with (breast) cancer
Developing a campaign with existing hospitals and health care systems to improve coordination of care & information services, and share best practice techniques
Creating awareness amongst corporate and donor communities in and outside the country to help generate funding
We need funding: We are a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping women with breast cancer. We need funds to do this. We want to build a hospice; we want to offer counselling services; we want to run complementary medicine classes; we want to give financial assistance to women who cannot afford treatment; we want to have a comprehensive library of literature and printed information to send patients; we want to create a one-stop-shop centre of excellence & support.
